YAHOO! CHAT FROM 5/26/2000 (Yahoo!)

Q from ajdubois_unh: Hey guys, the album is great! My question(s) is for Sascha. When did you know it was time to stop KMFDM and move on to MDFMK? Was it met with any sort of negativity from anyone formerly in KMFDM?

Sascha: It was time to move on when KMFDM became the same thing over and over, probably '96, '97. There was unfinished business, we had contractual obligations with our record label, Wax Trax. And so we had to make a last KMFDM album, which was entitled Adios.

Tim: Sascha is very cool like that. He's ahead of his time, he can see the future. So before something's run to the ground, he can see that and take care of it.

Q from hashassin_420: Why did you guys ditch BRUTE? Is there a story behind this question?

Sascha: We didn't ditch Brute, but with the end of KMFDM it meant the end to a lot things that meant KMFDM.

Q from zdrizin: i love the transition you've made into mdfmk, however i would love to hear "more and faster" on june 6th at the metro. what are the chances of that?

Sascha: None. Unless you bring your Walkman with a CD in it.

Tim: Overall, it will be much more, and much faster, but just not that song.

Q from kmfdm_mark84_00: Lucia, what are your feelings about the music that MDFMK has ben doing? Do you enjoy the role you play in the band?

Lucia: I'm a part of it, so I'm definitely connected to it. I wouldn't be here if I didn't feel that I had something to bring to it. As far as my role in it goes, it's pretty cool. I'm the only girl, I get to hang out with the two coolest guys in rock 'n' roll, 24-7. It's a lot of fun. They're teaching me a lot about computers, and I just learned how to play keyboards. All because of Sascha and Tim and their incredible direction.

Q from dial0g: What type of synthesizers do you prefer, hardware or software? It seems like you use alot of hardware stuff on your album releases (this going back to KMFDM as well) and I can swear I hear rebirth all over some of your remixes (Genitorturers and Lords of Acid remixes come to mind), also, what synths do you find yourself using the most?

Sascha: Hardware, definitely. By the way, we did not do a Genitorturers remix.

Tim: We like to mess with sounds a whole lot, and sometimes what you hear is completely different from what it started out as.

Q from andy_of_mythril_dot_org: this is for Sascha K, noone seems to be able to find your Remix of Korn's shoots in ladders. How where and underwhat cd name can i find this track. I'l do ANYTHING to find it.

Sascha: I have no idea, really. I have no control; I don't even keep any track of where people release the stuff, if they ever release it.

Tim: Releases of our work are done for hire, and the remixer has little say in how, when, and even if the remix is actually released. Once you complete and deliver the remix, it's out of the remixer's hands.

Q from mdfmkrulesall: Yes, we all know MDFMK just...well...rules...but if you people could be any other band...what would it be? (And...no former bands/side projects count!)

All: LOL

Tim: We're snickering smugly.

Sascha: I would be in the Mothers Of Invention Original Cast, Frank Zappa's old band.

Lucia: I'd be in Prodigy.

Tim: Wow...you know, I'd like to be included in the Abba reunion. LOL

Q from sigesang: are you going to be putting any additional members into the band for the tour?

Sascha: Yes.

Tim: Unfortunately, we can't name any names, but it's getting really close and we have someone lined up--a fourth member, yes.

Sascha: Non-specific gender.

Tim: There is no chance you're gonna miss it when you come down to the show.

Q from nuiizero: what are your thoughts on the distribution of mp3s for music artists?

Tim: Gracefully bows out of that conversation, along with religion, politics, and money, thank you very much.

Sascha: Just left quickly for the NYC bar association to find himself a new career as a lawyer.

Lucia: I'm starving. Buy the record. Don't download it for free. I need a hamburger! LOL

Q from No_Managers: so who is mdfmk touring with

Sascha: We're gonna be touring with Lords Of Acid in July and August. We're touring on our own as of next week.

Q from twnbitch: Any chance you'll play any Skold songs live?

Tim: No, negative, absolutely not.

Sascha: Skold, isn't that a chewing tobacco product?

Q from raevyn2118: was the song control in the works before kmfdm split? it sounds much more like old stuff vs. the rest of the mdfmk album

Tim: No, not really.

Q from velvetgoldmine81: Tim, are you single? How old are you? and can I tie you up?

Tim: You're gonna have to catch me in person to get all that out of me.

Q from loatheinc: Lucia, what made you Decide to hook up with Tim and Sascha?

Lucia: They called me, out of the blue, and it was an opportunity too good to pass up. I'm a woman of very few words, you'll have to forgive me.

Q from bauhausmusik: Can you tell us about the tour coming up and a hint at what to expect?

Tim: No, well, we don't want to do that. We don't want to give too much away. People who know us have a clue, but no, we're not gonna give it away.

Q from lisa_k_14_1999: What kind of gutairs do you guys use in you band? The reason why I'm asking this is because I'm planning on getting one this summer!

Tim: I use a Roland G 707 guitar, but I don't necessarily want to recommend it. It's the one I like. I think you should go to a good music store and play around and find one you really like that's good for you.

Sascha: I still think that the guitar is an instrument of the Middle Ages. I'm still doubting if it's Middle Ages or middle-aged.

Q from djplaztek: With KMFDM standing for "No Pity for the Majority, What does MDFMK Stand for now?

Sascha: "A Majority for the Pity."

Q from se7en_veils: what are the members of mdfmk listening to nowadays

Sascha: I still listen mostly to polka music.

Lucia: I'm just trying to learn my parts right now. I've been listening to this record, MDFMK, I recommend you listen to that.

Tim: Winter Kalte, the name of the record is Drums And Noise, while driving.

Q from Cerebustheaardvark: what do you see as the big difference between the two bands?

Sascha: Some of the members from KMFDM are not included in this band. We're a fresh, clean slate. On the other hand, we're a new band and we need your support!

Q from loatheinc: What made all three of you decide to make a presence in the newsgroup alt.music.mdfmk?

Sascha: Well, I requested that our music MDFMK begin, and it did. Which made me feel very empowered. We would answer questions from that newsgroup, and it would be straight from the horse's mouth.

Tim: The old-timers over at the newsgroups know that there's been presence for many, many years.

Lucia: I answered one or two emails, I guess, that were directed at me. I don't get much email. Nobody really writes me much. LOL

Tim: I like to check in every now and again to see if Drew has learned to type.

Q from globoffat: speaking of gear, in times past the web site featured for sale items, is this something that might come back? or are there any items you are currently getting rid of?

Sascha: No, not currently.

Lucia: But there might be an auction for all the furniture in my apartment if you young people don't go buy this record! LOL

Tim: Even though we don't directly answer the MP3 questions, the bitterness shows through. We feel that we've lost a lot of our sales through MP3s. It might not make a difference for the big artists, but we're a small band and we need every sale we can get. I can understand why people download, I've done it.

Q from almutasim00: Hello from Russia! What is your ideal for society structure: socialism, anarchy, traditional society or globalizm (that trying to conquer the world now)?

Sascha: Anarchy.

Tim: We're sending you back to the can!

Sascha: Quite unseriously.

Q from twnbitch: Are you happy with your current record label?

Sascha: Next question.

damagedcircuitry: I have this really crappy Muppet Babies song that's supposedly a KMFDM remix.. Please tell me that isn't true.

Sascha: No, unless Gunter Schulz cranks out unauthorized remixes as KMFDM.

Q from noxiou5: If you were on yahoo chat and you were asking mdfmk questions, what would you ask?

Sascha: I would ask, "Are you guys out of your f--king minds?"

Q from Dezarin: Missing Time was awsome, but what made you guys decide to include Dorona Alberti on it? Or have I been misinformed?

Sascha: We did some recording with Dorona, that was before Lucia came into the picture. Since Lucia came into the picture, she took over all world, and we needed no more Dorona or anyone else.

Lucia: I'm SPEECHLESS!

Q from carbon2k: MDFMK is becoming an influencing factor in art and design, spawning many of my own designs. Was MDFMK built as an art form, a statement, or simply music?

All: All of the above. All of us say all of the above.

Q from damagedcircuitry: Will MDFMK ever work with MTV if given the chance? I know KMFDM's stance.. Is it still the same now?

Sascha: No. LOL

Lucia: LREALLYL

Q from globoffat: I was surprised to hear that mdfmk will be on farmclub monday night, would kmfdm ever have made such an appearance? is mdfmk a more commercially available inversion of kmfdm? would kmfdm ever have hosted such a chat room?

Sascha: Next question. Getting too deep. LOL

Tim: We're trying to make ourselves available, mostly on public demand, actually. We'd be quite happy in a basement programming for the rest of our lives, but we're here on public request.

Lucia: We're trying to save the world from sugar- pop bands. It's our way of infiltrating the mainstream, and taking over.

Q from levelindustries: I love playing my guitar, but i want to get into mixing my music with other beats and sounds in loops, what do you guys recommend as a good starting synthesizer ?

Sascha: There's very many workstations out there, and again, the advice would be to go to a good music store. Information is the key. Take your time to find what you like and you can afford.

Tim: There's plenty of shareware over the Internet, you have a computer, so try some of that stuff.

Q from jesikinkalicious: If there was any band that you could tour with again and wanted to, Which would it be and is there any specific reason behind this?

Sascha: There's so many bands out there. It's a hard decision.

Tim: It wouldn't be Rammstein, because of the no- smoking policy. (PYRO)

Q from Uzual_Suspekt: if u could make a phrase out of the "acronym" mdfmk, what would it be?

Sascha: We wouldn't. It was difficult enough to try that with KMFDM. And English has so few words that begin with a K.

Tim: That's not OUR job, that's you guys' job.

Sascha: To quote Al, "Connect the god**** dots!"

Q from lisa_k_14_1999: What is your guys's favorite music, food, and places to go to when you get the time?

Sascha: My favorite color is blue. Classical, Italian (both for the music and food). Italy.

Tim: Punk rock, dark beer, Norway.

Lucia: Red wine, red wine, and red wine. LOL

Q from mercenary_andrew_matrix: If you had a chance to smack one pop star or band who would it be?

Lucia: By saying you'd smack them, it would suggest that you actually care.

Sascha: We don't smack people, we let people be smacked. That you've actually put thought into it. We have a roadie for that.

Tim: If Liam in Prodigy was a chick, I'd smack him right up!

Q from plastic_clown: hey, whats yr main source of inspiration? what makes you write what you do?

Sascha: Lucia says red wine.

Lucia: LOL

Sascha: For me inspiration is often reading or just sitting there thinkin'.

Lucia: The world around you is a never-ending source of material.

Tim: The redundant amount of firing synapses. ENDORPHINS.

Q from noxiou5: If you could sum up mdfmk in one word, which would it be?

Sascha: Awesome.

Lucia: Orgasmic.

Q from permatripin: How do we e-mail you?

Sascha: Only if you know us real well...

Tim: We used to have email on the website but it became impossible for us to manage, and instead of handing it off to someone to handle we decided to cease that part of the operation.

Q from fi7e: What state does MDFMK live in now after they moved from Washington?

Sascha: New York state. Two of us live in NY state, one of us lives in Cal state.

Q from cheesy_beast: What is a basic description of a working day of one of the members in the band?

Lucia: Get up at around 8:00, have some breakfast, go to the studio, work for 12 to 24 hours (LOL), grab a snack before going to bed, and of course, lots of red wine. Go to sleep and start all over the next day. Not very exciting, huh? But that's how it's been the last couple of weeks. And starting next week, touring begins.

Sascha: We're being quite brutal as far as introducing Lucia into our work regimen. Which is beyond impulsive and obsessive. Compulsive, sorry.

Q from loatheinc: Sascha, what has been the best thing for you, shedding the old and starting anew with mdfmk?

Sascha: The best part is that I feel liberated, and I feel that even though I do owe much to my past, I do owe myself the future.

Q from Uzual_Suspekt: do your lyrics come first or the music?

Sascha: That really, really depends on a case-to- case scenario, really. I can't really say it's one way or another.

Q from zdrizin: lucia, speaking of red wine, what's you're fav?

Lucia: Well, right now I'm working my way through the...I'm very fond of Italian wine. I also like Australian, and Spanish wine. It goes well with any meal, including breakfast. LOL

Sascha: Lucia hasn't had any today.

Q form one_track_minded_fukkheads: when you were children what were your guys favorite toys?

Sascha: Explosives.

Lucia: LOL

Sascha: Explosives, flammables, chemicals.

Lucia: I can't go back that far. I can't even remember any toys that I might have had.

Tim: I remember fighting gravity. I was a poor kid.

Q from air_mar: What do you think about the various mdfmk fansites that are out there? Any personal favorites?

Sascha: I frankly have not seen that many. That's 'cause I'm very busy, and do not surf the Internet.

Q from andy_of_mythril_dot_org: lucia are you married?

Lucia: No, but I'd like to be someday.

Sascha: Hopefully to someone who has a winery or some sort of estate.

Lucia: Who knows how to cook. And can do my laundry.

Q from bauhausmusik: Whats your favorite song off the new album and why?

Tim: "Now" is my favorite song. Because it's so DAMN good. LOL

Lucia: Mine changes all the time, right now my favorite is "Gasoline."

Sascha: "Gasoline," flammable liquid with 8 letters.

Q from LyndseyLaunch: What do you think of new German industrial bands like Wumpscut?

Sascha: I don't care much for industrial bands.

Q from antagody: Are any of you pierced?

Tim: I have a nipple piercing.

Sascha: I just had my underpants surgically removed.

Q from bethediva_2000: Where do you think you'll be in 10 years?

Lucia: Dead. LOL. No.

Sascha: Dead or in a wheelchair.

Q form bethediva_2000: Do you feel that you would be a musician no matter what the cost to you personally? I mean if you toiled at it your entire life and never made it, would you still be fulfilled?

Sascha: Yes.

All: Everybody says yes.

Tim: The definition of success is totally individual. Like fish, as long as we move, we stay afloat. If we stop moving, we drown. In a constant state of test-bombing.

Lucia: The future must not belong to the mediocre!

All: Ciao, adieu, hasta la vista, goodbye, sayonara, over and out. Dosvidonja...drain.
