INTERVIEW #2 WITH ZINNY ZAN (Medazzarock)

Back in 1989 you were the singer of Shotgun Messiah on the self-titled album. All I know is that you left the band after that album and Tim Skold (now member of MDFMK) replaced you on vocals. What happened?

I was a member of Shotgun Messiah til march or april of 1990 when I got sacked. I got no reason why from the guys but the situation had been pretty cold between me, Tim and Harry from new year 1989 and on the winter tour of 1990. Let's say that the only common thing we had together was Shotgun Messiah. I believe all of us lived only for the band, but I guess reality came up while touring that we wanted different things for the next album, and I think Tim and Harry knew pretty early that Tim should be the singer.

Shotgun Messiah's first album was released 11 years ago. What have you done the last 11 years?
1991 I put a band together called Grand Slam (with ex Electric Boys guitarist) and got signed to Warner. In the middle of the recording of the album our main man at Warner quit and we got dropped. 1994 I put another band called Zan Clan together. We realeased one album called "Citizen of Wasteland". To be honest it was made in such a hurry and I was not in the best shape at that time. The album really suck. Since then I have been taking care of my self and been writing new material and as you understand these songs are not made in a hurry. I won't make the samefucking mistake twice!

Still in contact with any of the ex Shotgun Messiah members now?

Yes, I spoke to Stixx not so long ago - he has just been a father for the second time.

What do you think about the SM-Albums that are released after you left the band?

' Second Coming' was a good album. I liked it a lot. They stole a little too much from Hanoi Rocks, but it rocked. 'I Want More' is good, too. Its funny though, 'cause the covers they play was the songs I always played in my car and Tim and Harry told me to turn off. They didn't like 'em then so I guess I tought them something. ' Violent New Breed' is not my brand of Whiskey so I shouldn't review something I'm not into.

Actually, you're working on a solo-album. As you told me, Kee Marcello (Ex-Europe) and Mickey Dee (Motöhead) will play on some of the tracks. How did you get to know these guys?

Kee Marcello is a very old friend of mine. Before I joined Shotgun and he joined Europe we had a band together called Easy Action. We released one album before I quit and later joined Shotgun. Mickey I got to know christmas eve 1988 at King Diamonds Christmas Party in L.A. We are good friends ever since every time they are around we meet.

I guess this one is interesting for all the Europe-Fans out there - do you know something about a Europe-Comeback?

There have been rumours about a reunion and I personally think it will happen. When I'dont know, but everyone is for a reunion in the band. The only one with second thoughts is Joey. I must tell you this; someone ran in to my car a few weeks ago. I jumped out of my car to see who the fucker was who was so blind and it was no other than John Levén. He didn't believe it either! We hadn't seen each other for over a year and then we meet like this. Unbelievable.

What do we have to expect from your upcoming album?

People say it is a mix of Ozzy and Thin Lizzy so I don't know. It is a rocker album with attitude. I send you a copy when it's ready.

When will the album be ready?

It will be out in oct this year.

Last question. Most of the bands present theirself in the world wide web. What about a Zinny-Site?

A site for Zinny J Zan is coming up very soon!

At least something you want to say to the fans out there?

Thank you for waiting. I will be back to rock your ass off very soon.
